About Pahalgam: Pahalgam is situated 95 kms east of Srinagar. It is a beautiful resort at confluence of Lidder river and the Sheshnag lake. The landscape is marked by steep hills, lush forests and the cascading Lidder river. Extremely popular with tourists, it is an important trekking base. One can trek or hire a pony to some of the most exotic locations -like, the vast meadow of Baisaran, surrounded by thickly wooded pine forests and scenic picnic spots like Hajan and Chandanwari. Chandanwari, is also the starting point of the journey to the Amarnath Shrine which takes place every year in the month of July/August. 11 kms. from Chandanwari is the mountain lake of Sheshnag. Pahalgam is located in the western part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, in the northern region of India. It is located at an altitude of 2130 m above sea level amidst the great Himalayan range.

 

 
     
 

It is positioned beside the Liddar River, in the Liddar valley. Pahalgam is 95 km east of Srinagar. The weather in Pahalgam is alpine. Summers (April–June) are mild while winters (November–February) are cold. It experiences rains between July and September. It experiences heavy snowfall from December to February.

  Air: The nearest airhead is Srinagar (95 kms).

  Aru - (It is accessible by road) a sleepy village 10 kms from Pahalgam, is a picturesque meadow. One can see waterfalls on the way. It is also the first step on the way to the world famous Kohlai glacier. From here one can also trek to Tarsar, Marsar lakes or Sonamarg.  
     
  Chandanwari - ( 16 km away, accessible by road ) is the starting point for the annual Amarnath Yatra. It has a snow bridge over river Sheshnag. One can sledge over the snow bridge. One can go up to Sheshnag lake in a days return trek.  
     
  Baisaran - ( 3 kms away, accessible by pony, also motrable ) is a lush green meadow surrounded by thick forest. One can trek upto Tulian lake from here (a day's trip).  
     
  Dabian & Kashmir Valley - ( accessible by Pony only ) Known as mini Switzerland, it takes you on a hill top with a breath taking view of the entire valley.  
     
  Circut Road - ( accessible by road ) it is a stretch of 6 Km's. It takes you through the hutment area. A very beautiful drive.  
     
  Shikergah, and Mahabaleshwar - is an ancient Temple which dates back to 14th century which can be travelled on foot or pony.  
     
  Martand Temple - ( A days trip by car ) It is one of the three Sun temples in India. A must visit.  
     
  Kokernag, Achabal & Verinag - ( A day's trip by car ) A trip to where river Jhelum originates and beautiful gardens along the countryside.  
     
  Golf - A new 18 hole golf course is coming up which will be one of the most scenic courses with refreshing view of pine trees. It will be of international standards & on the lines of Royal Spring golf course Srinagar.  
     
  River Rafting - Pahalgam offers white water river rafting in the river 'LIDER" during April to August.  
     
  Trout Fishing - Pahalgam is angler's paradise with brown & rainbow varieties of trout for fishing.  
     
  Around the vicinity in Pahalgam one can visit Pahalgam Club which has lovely lawns, Bobby hut, Poshwan Park which means Garden of flowers & Lavender Park.  
     
 

Amarnath Pahalgam is also the starting point for darhan to Amarnath cave. It is the traditional route and it takes about 2 days to complete the jouney either by foot or by pony.

    AMARNATH YATRA  
     
 

Amarnath - One of the holy trinity, Shiva is a living god. The most sacred and most ancient book of India, the Rig Veda evokes his presence in its hymns, Vedic Myths, rituals and even testify to his existance from the dawn of time. Legend has it that Shiva recounted to Parvati the secret of creation in a cave in Amarnath. Unknown to them, a pair of doves eavesdropped on this conversation and having learnt the secret, are reborn again and again, and have made the cave their eternal abode. The annual yatra to Holy Amarnath Cave, situated at 14000 ft. above sea level, is organised by the Jammu & Kashmir State Government during the month of July and August. The intending pilgrims are allowed to perform darshan from Ashard Purnimashi to Shravan Purnimashi which course spreads over a month or so.

  Day 1st:

Arrival and pickup at Srinagar Airport / City. Drive to Baltal, time permitting spend some time at Sonmarg the meadow of gold and explore environs therein. Reach Baltal and check into Sri Amarnathji Shrine Board Huts for an overnight stay. Dinner and Prasad at nearby Yatra Langars.

 

 
     
     
 
 

  Day 2nd

After early morning wake up call, proceed to the helipad (5 to 10 minutes walk from the huts), to take a Helicopter ride to the Holy Cave for Pooja and Darshan (time 1 to 1.5 hours). Return to the helipad after your Darshan and fly back to Baltal. Pickup from Baltal and drive to Srinagar, enroute visit Khirbhawani Temple (time permitting). Reach Srinagar and check in to a Deluxe Houseboat/ Hotel for an overnight stay.

  Day 3rd
